THE SALA DELLE COLONNE
The Sala delle Colonne is one of the most evocative and historically rich spaces within the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia “Leonardo da Vinci”. Housed in the former Olivetan monastery of San Vittore al Corpo, the hall was originally built in the 16th century to serve as the monastic library — a place of study, reflection, and knowledge.
Its architecture still reflects the elegance of the Milanese Renaissance: a wide nave marked by solemn stone columns that lead the eye toward large openings overlooking the inner cloisters. The silence and natural light that fill the space preserve the original atmosphere of contemplation and beauty.
Over the centuries, the Sala has been frequented by monks, scholars, and later by scientists and curators of the Museum. Its walls hold a deep cultural legacy, making every gathering held here part of a larger story — one of knowledge, innovation, and memory.
Getting to the Sala delle Colonne
The Sala delle Colonne is located inside the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia “Leonardo da Vinci”, at Via San Vittore 21, Milan, in the heart of the city. Easily accessible by public transportation, it’s a 5-minute walk from the Sant’Ambrogio metro station (Line M2) and close to several tram and bus stops, including Carducci – Museo della Scienza (lines 58, 94) and Corso Genova – Via Ariberto (tram lines 2, 14).
The venue is within Milan’s Area C (congestion charge zone), and paid parking is available nearby (ATM Carducci Parking, and Garage Sant’Ambrogio).
